Courses

Chickens for Beginners- available every Sunday from April, 10:00-1700.This is a one day course for anyone who wants to keep chickens for the first time. This course will give you all the information you need to select the right breed for you, choose the right house and know where to place it, feeding, breeding, pests and illness, handling and a section on the special requirements of ex-battery hens.Cost £35

Grow Your Own FoodAvailable every Friday from March, 10:00-1700. For anyone bitten by the "grow your own bug"! You'll leave this one day course armed with all the knowledge and confidence you'll need to start growing your own food. We'll teach you a selection of techniques like the three sisters, planting by the phases of the moon and island planting, and help you to plan your first season to ensure a good harvest throughout the year.Cost £45

Bee Keeping for beginners- We are now taking bookings for March and April, 10:00-1700. This is a two day course designed to give you all the knowledge you need to take care of your own beehive. On day one the course covers bee behaviour, pests and disease, equipment, products of the hive, feeding, winter care and legal requirements. Day two is a more practical day- opening up a hive and looking at the bees and comb, examining different management techniques, extracting honey and processing wax. Cost £55. We are happy to help in finding local accomodation if required.

Basic/ advanced Forestry- Available every Saturday or party/individual bookings by request, 10:00- 1700. These are one day courses designed to introduce you to all aspects of forestry, from choosing a site and planting a new woodland, up to advanced high pruning and timber management. The courses are taught mostly outdoors with an emphasis on practical trainning. All equipment is supplied. Cost £65

A day on the farm- Available every day, 10:00-17:00. This is a fun day out for the whole family. Spend a day with us on the farm, feeding pigs, rounding up sheep, try your hand at whatever interests you. This is a fully flexible day out so if your only interest is pigs then we can spend the whole day with the pigs! Lunch and refreshments are provided. Cost £12 per person, family ticket £40
